Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Jay Bhutani, and I am the President & COO of Raintree Wealth Management.  We are a discretionary wealth management firm based in Toronto and Edmonton.  I am born and raised in Toronto to immigrant parents from India. I love food and wine, Crossfit, and the Raptors.

“Our Robotic Surgery Program is at the forefront of innovation, with advanced surgical robots assisting our surgeons as they perform complex procedures with greater precision and accuracy than ever before,” says Jay Bhutani.

What makes you passionate about Humber River Hospital?

I am passionate about helping our community and supporting Humber River Hospital’s high-quality care for those who need it most. In an under-serviced area like ours, it’s important to deliver excellent medical services to patients from all walks of life.

Is there a Program of Care that you are particularly passionate about?

I am excited about the Robotic Surgery Expansion at Humber River Hospital. Our Robotic Surgery Program is at the forefront of innovation, with advanced surgical robots assisting our surgeons as they perform complex procedures with greater precision and accuracy than ever before. Working with these sophisticated machines, our Hospital is helping thousands of patients get back on their feet faster and more comfortably than ever before.

In your opinion, what are the most interesting ways technology is being used at Humber?

Humber is one of the most remarkable Hospitals I have ever seen, incorporating technology and innovation to provide the best patient care.

The Command Centre is the Hospital’s mission-control, which enables staff to monitor and manage the flow of patients at every stage of care. Through improving patient flow, the Command Centre has actually increased Hospital capacity without adding beds.

The Pharmacy is also amazing. After a physician or a nurse orders medication for their patient, a pharmacist verifies it, and the PillPick and BoxPicker robots dispense and package the medication, tracking everything and reducing human error. Then, the medication is taken straight to the unit by Automated Guided Vehicle or pneumatic tube. At the bedside, the nurse scans the barcode on the medication and the patient’s wristband to ensure the correct medication and dosage is given to each patient. Everything is tracked and everything is precise.

Do you have a favourite fundraising initiative?

In November, I attended The River Ball, an amazing event that raised $1,130,000 for the Robotic Surgery Program.

What is something awesome you’ve done in the past year and something exciting you have coming up?

In 2022, I joined Raintree Wealth Management as President and Humber River Hospital Foundation’s Board of Directors. In 2023, I’m looking forward to turning 50 and going to the Superbowl!
