Life Insurance

A gift of life insurance will enable you to make a major donation through a policy you already own or through a series of affordable premium payments. There are a number of ways to donate and plan your gift using life insurance:

  • Give an already paid-up policy and receive a donation receipt for the cash value of the policy.
  • Give an existing policy on which premiums are still being paid, and in return, receive a receipt for the cash value of the policy and subsequent premium payments.
  • Purchase a new policy, transfer ownership to the Humber River Hospital Foundation, and receive a tax receipt for all payments on the premiums.
  • Retain ownership of the policy and name the Humber River Hospital Foundation as the direct beneficiary and, when you pass away, your estate will receive a receipt for the face value of the policy.

Gifts made through registered retirement savings plans (RRSPs) and registered retirement income funds (RRIFs) are a popular way to offset taxes owing on funds at the time of death. When you name Humber River Hospital Foundation directly as beneficiary, your estate will save probate fees.

Your gift is treated as a charitable donation in the year of death and a charitable receipt will counterbalance your final tax return, transforming any final tax liabilities. Please consult with your family and financial or estate planning advisor about this easy process.

Tax laws make it beneficial for donors to make a gift through the donation of appreciated securities, mutual funds, bonds or options because you are 100% exempt from paying capital gains tax. This is an easy and tax effective way of supporting Humber River.

A Special Tribute

Make a donation to honour or remember a loved one or to celebrate a special occasion. Whether you are marking a happy or sad occasion, a special tribute can be a meaningful way to express your feelings. In Memory

Thanks to your generosity, the community benefits from the enhanced care provided by staff and physicians at Humber River Hospital. And the family of the person memorialized benefits from the knowledge that their loved one’s life, achievements and beliefs have made a difference to the health of their community.

Upon receipt of your gift, an e-card or printed card will be sent to the honouree’s next of kin to acknowledge your special gift.

In Honour – Life’s Special Occasions

Please consider making the Humber River Hospital part of your special occasion.

Whether you choose to ask for a donation in lieu of providing wedding favours or instead of asking guests to bring a gift to a party, your generosity can make a difference. Tribute gifts are also the perfect way to mark a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, a new baby, a retirement, a birthday or an anniversary.

The honouree will receive a personalized e-card or printed card with your special message notifying them that a donation has been made in their name.

Family Campaign

Our donations don’t come only from outside of the Hospital. Our family of physicians and staff are strong supporters of Humber River. And that’s the strongest testimonial we have to the great things we are doing here. Our people see first-hand the difference we are making in the community and know from experience the importance of financially supporting the Hospital to meet current and future needs. They understand the challenges we face better than anyone else and the importance of supporting the community that they treat every day. Members of the Humber River team can designate their gifts towards a particular area of care, their own departments or the purchase of much-needed equipment.

Personal Fundraising

Make a difference by combining your event or milestone with support for Humber River.

A significant milestone — like a birthday, an anniversary or a wedding — offers a perfect opportunity to combine a celebration with a cause. Humber River Hospital’s personal fundraising pages make it easy to support the Hospital’s life-saving programs while honouring an important occasion.

Host an Event

Hosting an events supports your employees, the patients and shows that you care.

Humber River Hospital is reshaping the way healthcare is delivered in our community, but we couldn’t do it without the support of the people who live and work within our region.

Community events can be a fun way to support Humber River’s efforts to innovate and stay ahead of a changing world. Are you planning a new event like a BBQ or a movie night? Or could you add a fundraising component to an existing event, like a holiday party or team-building exercise?

Your efforts will help us reinvent patient care, implement new technology and purchase equipment. After all, when a community is healthy, it thrives. And that means a sustainable future for us all.
