“I volunteer with HRH Foundation because Humber River Hospital makes a difference in the lives of people I know,” says Massiel.

My name is Massiel Sanchez. I have been a Dietary Aide at Humber River Hospital since 2011 and a volunteer with the Foundation for just over three months.

In one sentence, how would you explain your job as a Dietary Aide to a friend?

As a Dietary Aide, I prepare and deliver food to all areas of the hospital.

What inspired you to volunteer for Humber River Hospital Foundation?

In the past few years, I’ve become more involved in fundraising events. I volunteer with HRH Foundation because Humber River Hospital makes a difference in the lives of people I know and if I can contribute to making them feel better I will, and I do.

Is there a Program of Care you have a personal connection to?

A few Programs of Care connect personally with me. Maternal and Child, Paediatrics, Cancer Care and Mental Health are all departments that have assisted with the care of my loved ones and I am grateful that this hospital is close to those that need it.

As a volunteer with us, what have been your favorite projects so far?

To date, my favorite project has been The River Ball: Moonlight Midway By the River!

What is one awesome thing you’ve done in the last year?

The past year has been amazing to me. I’ve been part of various planning committees that helped make a difference in the lives of many children through fundraising events. I’ve also been surrounded by so many beautiful, strong women professionally and personally that have helped me grow, and that in itself has been amazing as well!

What inspires you?

My children inspire me. I like gathering people and that inspires me too, but showing my kids that life is not just about taking but also about giving is important to me.
