When Anthony James Whyte first saw the Canadarm, Canada’s robotic contribution to space exploration, he was captivated. “I was so intrigued by the Canadarm when it launched in 1981,” Anthony shares. “It inspired me to study electronics, to dream bigger, to build something that could make a difference.”

That early fascination with innovation has remained a guiding force throughout his life. Today, Anthony serves as President and CEO of the Go Integrated Group of Companies, a multi-sector enterprise focused on logistics and transportation, real estate development, and energy solutions. While his business continues to expand and grow, it’s his most recent act of generosity that’s propelling healthcare advancements here at home.

Anthony’s recent $1 million donation to Humber River Health’s Robotic Surgery Program helped close the gap on our $10 million Robotic Campaign—two years ahead of schedule. This transformational support means more patients will benefit from minimally invasive procedures, faster recoveries, and the kind of compassionate, high-tech care that simply wouldn’t exist without donor generosity.

Though he gave without seeking recognition, the impact of Anthony’s gift will be felt for years to come. “All the technology is great,” he says, “but at the end of the day, I care about how we’re making a difference in someone’s life.”

For Anthony, this commitment to advancing equitable and innovative healthcare is deeply personal. Born in Georgetown, Guyana, he immigrated to Canada in 1982, carrying with him the values instilled by his parents and grandmother: integrity, generosity, and the belief that success means little if it’s not shared.

“The principles I was taught are the same ones I live by today—work hard, stay humble, and give back.”

His sense of responsibility to give back was shaped early on. Years ago, while visiting Toronto, his grandmother suffered a heart attack and was treated at Humber’s legacy site on Keele. It was a difficult time for his family, marked by the stress and uncertainty that can come with a medical crisis—both personally and practically. That experience stayed with Anthony and became a quiet promise to himself: if he was ever in a position to ease that kind of burden for others, he would.

Today, Anthony is fulfilling that promise—not only as a business leader and philanthropist, but as a husband and father. He and his wife, Joanne, are raising three children—two of whom have pursued careers in healthcare. Their shared values—rooted in service, humility, and compassion—are what drive the Whyte family to support initiatives that make a tangible impact in people’s lives.

“If you don’t invest in technology today, you won’t know how far it can go tomorrow,” Anthony says. “That’s what this gift is really about—making sure we’re part of what’s next.”

Still, Anthony sees this as just the beginning. He hopes his story will inspire others, especially fellow entrepreneurs and emerging philanthropists, to step forward and invest in the future of healthcare.

“There’s enough out there for all of us to enjoy—and enough for us to share. Even if you start small, it matters.”

With his donation, Anthony Whyte isn’t just advancing robotic surgery, he’s honouring the legacy of those who raised him and setting an example for the next generation. Together, with his family, he is helping to build a healthcare system where innovation and compassion go hand in hand.

“As my kids begin their own careers, I want them to reach out and touch lives,” shares Anthony. “Even one week a year to volunteer their time. That’s the kind of legacy I hope we leave.”

Just as the Canadarm once inspired him to imagine what was possible, Anthony’s generosity is now helping shape a new era of care—one where technology transforms lives and access is more equitable than ever.

At Humber, healthcare isn’t just about machines and medicine. It’s about people. It’s about progress. And it’s about what we can achieve when visionary donors like Anthony choose to give.
