Celebrating 10 Years of Firsts in Healthcare

September 15, 2025

For a decade, Humber River Health has been transforming care through digital innovation and compassion. Now, we’re building the next decade of firsts.

A Legacy of Firsts

Building on a decade of firstsFor ten years, Humber River Health has been more than a hospital. We’ve been a pioneer. From the moment we opened our doors in 2015 as North America’s first fully digital hospital, we set out to redefine what’s possible in healthcare. Our vision combined cutting-edge technology with patient-centred care, and the results speak for themselves.

In 2017, Humber launched Canada’s first hospital Command Centre, a revolutionary hub that streamlines patient care in real time using data-driven insights. This innovation has allowed our teams to respond faster, allocate resources more efficiently, and ensure patients receive the right care at the right time.

We’ve also led breakthroughs in robotic-assisted surgeries, giving patients safer, less invasive procedures and shorter recovery times. These milestones are more than technical achievements. Each ‘first’ represents countless lives saved, families supported, and communities cared for.

None of this would have been possible without our donors, supporters, staff, volunteers, and patients. Together, we’ve proven what’s possible when compassion and innovation come first.

The People Behind the ‘Firsts’

Behind every first, is a person whose life was changed. Humber’s innovations touch real people in profound ways.

FMiriamrom pain to possibility: Miriam’s journey

Miriam chose Humber for her first knee replacement using the ROSA® Knee System. With the help of robotics and the mymobility® app, she recovered faster than expected and was traveling just six weeks later. “I never imagined I could get back on my feet so quickly,” Miriam says.

GeorgeFinding hope in struggle: George’s story

Twelve-year-old George began his journey with Humber’s mental health team to manage OCD and suicidal thoughts. With ongoing support and guidance, he’s building hope and coping skills for the future. George’s story shows that firsts aren’t just about technology — they’re about providing care and compassion when it’s needed most.

LioudmilaIndependence restored: Lioudmila’s story

Lioudmila regained independence and energy through Humber’s home dialysis program. Today, she can care for her children and live life on her own terms. “This program changed my life — it’s like another family,” she says.
