Beloved Local Business Rustic Bakery Has Raised $50K for Humber River Health Foundation
At Rustic Bakery, community isn’t just a word—it’s a way of life. Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, this family-run bakery has long been a cornerstone of connection, comfort, and care in the neighbourhood.
The decision to support Humber River Health came from the very people Rustic Bakery serves—its family, friends, and loyal customers. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, many seniors in the community, living without close family nearby, turned to the bakery not just for food, but for guidance and connection.
Humber River Health became a lifeline for many. It was clear that this was more than a hospital—it was a pillar of the community.

Rustic Bakery’s annual golf tournament in support of Humber River Health has grown from a small idea into a cherished community tradition.
“Our seniors were always taken care of at Humber,” says Joey Loiero, son of founder Mirella Loiero. “During COVID, when social distancing made everything harder, they came to us for answers. Humber was their go-to for treatment and care.”
For the Loiero family, that connection is deeply personal.
“Our kids were born there. Our family was cared for there,” says Mirella. “It’s not just our hospital—it’s our community’s hospital.”
Rustic Bakery’s annual golf tournament in support of Humber River Health has grown from a small idea into a cherished community tradition. Their 2025 tournament raised $34,750 for Humber River Health Foundation, bringing their total contribution to $50,050 —a remarkable testament to the power of community generosity.
In honour of their tremendous impact, a courtesy suite on the 8th floor of Humber River Health’s Wilson Site now bears the Rustic Bakery name—a space created to give back once again to the community that has always supported them. It’s a haven for families to rest while their loved ones receive care, offering comfort and warmth that mirrors the feeling of walking into Rustic Bakery itself. Just like the bakery, this space is rooted in connection, compassion, and being there when people need it most.
“We never imagined we’d be here 40 years later,” Mirella reflects. “We couldn’t have grown without the support of our community. Putting our name on the hospital walls is something we never dreamed of—it’s all thanks to the passion, drive, and love from the people around us.”
The Golf Tournament That Keeps Growing
On May 26, 2026, the fifth annual Rustic Bakery Golf Tournament will take place at Lebovic Golf Club, continuing a legacy of unity and care for a hospital that has touched countless lives.
This year’s event holds special meaning as Rustic Bakery celebrates its 40th anniversary—a milestone made possible by the unwavering support of the community. That same support helped Rustic earn a lasting place within Humber River Health, with a courtesy suite now bearing its name—a true symbol of community strength and connection.

To Rustic Bakery, Community Means Responsibility.
Rustic Bakery began when Mirella Loiero and her family took over from the previous owners, expanding the original storefront into a thriving hub that now includes a bakery, grocery, grab-and-go meals, and event catering.
“It’s about keeping people happy, healthy, and engaged,” says Mary, Mirella’s daughter. “We’re like family with our customers, and they treat us like family in return.”
That philosophy is baked into everything Rustic does—from offering traditional Italian comfort food that reminds people of home, to creating a space where seniors can socialize and kids can grab gelato after school.
From daily coffees to wedding cakes, Rustic Bakery has grown into a one-stop shop that serves generations. But its impact goes far beyond its delicious cannoli—it’s about giving back.
