Meet RIVA, Humber River Hospital’s Chemotherapy Robot

September 20, 2017

Chemotherapy drugs are some of the most complicated and toxic drugs used in the Hospital. To keep everyone (patients AND staff) safe in our Cancer Care Clinic and pharmacy, Humber River Hospital uses the RIVA robot to prepare these drugs in a fully contained enclosure.

RIVA performs many weight and barcode checks to make sure doses are accurate and complete – leaving an electronic audit trail that keeps our patients safer.

RIVA is also integrated with our MediTech Oncology Solution, which is used in our Cancer Care Program to order, book, schedule and track each patient’s treatments. This integrated system reduces the risk of error that comes with writing and rewriting information while transferring data between systems, and because all patient information is in one place, it provides a single view of a patient’s progress.

RIVA keeps everyone at Humber safe.

Watch Savitree, a Pharmacy Technician at Humber River Hospital, show us how chemotherapy drugs are mixed using the RIVA robot.
