Mini Philanthropists: These Kids Are Giving Back to Humber River Hospital

November 21, 2019

Beatrice has been busy making friendship bracelets that she is selling to help her raise money for the babies in the NICU.

At Humber River Hospital Foundation, we are grateful for our donors at every age. We hope you enjoy these three stories of little ones who want to make a big difference.

Bea’s Bracelets

After a trip to Humber River Hospital to remove a bead that had mysteriously found its way up her nose this summer, Beatrice decided she would like to raise money to give back. She also is proud that her little sister was born at Humber River Hospital.

“After visiting the hospital I want to help all the sick babies get better,” says Beatrice on her fundraising page.

Thank you Beatrice!

Khalil’s Gift of Gratitude

The Gifts of Gratitude donation that he carefully taped to the inside of the brochure came from Khalil’s piggy bank will help future patients receive great care

After his mom received treatment in Humber’s Apotex Emergency Department, Khalil decided to leave a Gift of Gratitude donation in honour of the people who took care of her.

“Thank you for taking care of my mom,” he wrote in the card for her care team.

Khalil’s Gift of Gratitude means that ED nurse Valerie and Dr. Davenpour will each receive a special pin and a personalized card with Khalil’s message. The donation that he carefully taped to the inside of the brochure came from Khalil’s piggy bank will help future patients receive great care, one dollar at a time.

Kinsley’s First Birthday

To celebrate Kinsley’s first birthday, her family asked everyone to bring cash donations for Humber River Hospital, rather than gifts.

The year before, Baby Kinsley was born over 7 weeks early. While her parents Elise and Tom had planned to deliver in Alliston, they were rushed to Humber River Hospital by ambulance when Elise went into labour.

To celebrate Kinsley’s first birthday, her family asked everyone to bring cash donations for Humber River Hospital, rather than gifts.

“As first time parents our experience was terrifying, but all things considered we’re so thankful for our experience at Humber River,” says Elise. “My delivery nurse was the sweetest most nurturing person. My overnight nurse was my saving grace as I spent my first night as a mom away from my baby. Our care over the next several weeks with Kinsley being in NICU was also impressive. It was, of course, the hardest days of our lives but we trusted our NICU nurses and fell in love with Dr. Kenawy who we still see today for Kinsley.”
