Maria Raios on Humber Heels and Giving Back to her Community
“Just imagine,” says Maria Raios, excited to explain what makes Humber Heels so special, “Six hundred ladies in one room, looking gorgeous and having fun. All in support of Humber River Hospital.”
Maria has been on the committee of Humber River Hospital Foundation’s annual Women’s Event (now known as Humber Heels) for 11 years. She has also supported the Hospital as a corporate sponsor through her family’s beloved restaurant franchise Mr. Greek.
This year’s event, Fierce & Fantastic, is coming up on November 7th, 2019.
“Eleven years ago when I was asked to join this wonderful committee, the new Wilson site was still just empty land,” remembers Maria. “Now our Hospital is complete with the latest technology. It’s amazing.”
This year’s event is being hosted by singer songwriter Keshia Chanté, with a guest appearance by entrepreneur and body positivity activist Roxy Earle.
Guests will be able to drop in on essential oil mini-workshops with Saje, sing their hearts out at Carpool Karaoke, and shop Yorkdale Shopping Centre’s fabulous pop-up shops (including Ted Baker, Mulberry, Arc’Teryx, Fraktals Chocolate, Smithery Style, and Beth Godfrey Jewellery).
“Thanks to Yorkdale we have a chance to shop with a percentage of their pop-up sales donated to the Hospital,” says Maria.
This year, we’re excited to celebrate this year’s Humber Hero – Paula Reynolds, a nurse in our Maternal Child Program. Our Humber Hero Program honours a special healthcare worker who has made a significant difference in patient care at Humber River Hospital. Paula goes beyond the call of duty, and we are inspired by her passion and dedication to her job. Paula will be receiving a special styling experience at Nordstrom in Yorkdale and will be profiled in a video at the night of the event.
“Every year our event gets better and better,” says Maria. “This year will be full of surprises!”
Thank you, Maria, for your ongoing support!
